When I was a kid my mom would often buy taco seasoning packets. They were easy, inexpensive, and took up less space than a bunch of spice bottles. As we got more knowledgeable about food and processed food in particular, she started making her own and keeping it mixed up in the spice cabinet. This made it super simple taco seasoning is perfect for taco meat and for seasoning fajitas.
What You’ll Need for this Super Simple Taco Seasoning
This super simple taco seasoning has just a few spices but is still packed with flavor:
- Ground Cumin
- Ground Chile Powder
- Salt
- Pepper
Great Value’s organic spices are a good option, especially if you have limited choices. We’ve had good luck with these and they have plenty of flavor.
To Make the Seasoning
Measure all the spices into a bowl and stir until well combined.
When we are going camping we love to mix this up ahead of time and keep it in a spice jar (this was an empty cumin jar that I repurposed). Usually I’ll make a double batch so we have enough for a couple of meals.
Super Simple Taco Seasoning
Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp Ground Cumin
- 3 Tbsp Ground Chile Powder
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
Instructions
- Mix together all seasonings in a dish.
- Use immediately or store in an air tight container or jar.
- This makes enough spice mix to season 2 pounds of ground beef. If making the taco seasoning in bulk, use about a 1/4 cup of seasoning per pound of meat.
- When ready to use, add ¼ cup of water or broth to the pan along with the seasoning to help distribute thoroughly.
I love to add this super simple taco seasoning to chicken, ground beef, fajita meat, or even shrimp! This taco seasoning has great flavor and making it up ahead of time cuts down on prep time while we’re out at the campground.
